|The origin of Gu-Lan tea can be traced to the fourth century AD during the period of the
ancient Silk Road. At the ancient town of Gu Loulan, traders prepared an herbal tea by using
different spices sourced from Mongolia, China and the Himalayas before the start of their trade
expeditions. The tea was made to reduce the amount of sugar in their bodies and ward off
thirst while they were travelling across the desert. The tea kept them healthy and energetic,
free from illness and disease in the harsh environment of the Silk Road and helped the
traders cope with the irregular high fat diet on their journey to the West.
Recently scientists began studying the blends of the tea and discovered that in addition to
being good to drink, it's good for you. They're fortified with powerful, health-promoting nutrients,
including saponins, betaine, carotenoids, polysaccharides and antioxidants. Scientists are
only now discovering the health benefits of these potent substances, which may possibly be
part of answer to the question on man kinds aging and obesity.

Has Been Shown to Assist Lowering Blood Pressure - 3/5
Gu-Lan tea has been widely reported to be effective in maintaining healthy blood pressure
levels. Although the exact mechanism is still being researched, studies have shown that
Gu-Lan tea improves the metabolism of the heart directly 3 as well as enhances the
release of nitric oxide in the body and stimulates the nervous system (responsible for all
internal organs), which helps to relax the coronary blood vessels and arterial walls,
allowing them to expand and lower blood pressure. 4
223 patients were divided into three groups.
One group took Ginseng tea, the next took
Gu-Lan tea and the last took the blood pressure
medication, Indapamide. The effectiveness was
rated at 46% for Ginseng tea, 82% for Gu-Lan
tea and 93% for Indapamide. This herb
modulates blood pressure, lowering it when it
is too high and raising it when it is too low. 5
Beneficial to Cardiac Function Protection - 4/5
Gu-Lan tea increases cardiac function. In a study combined with various other herbs heart beat volume increased 37% and
cardiac output increased by 21% on average. Ejection fraction increased by 13%. Subjects had normal blood pressure which did
not change although heart rate decreased by 10%. 6
Type 2 Diabetes Control - 3/5
Studies have shown that Gu-Lan tea is rich in antioxidants, specifically carotenoids, which are known
to protect the retina of the eye and believed to decrease the risk of developing macular degeneration, a
disease associated with complications from diabetes. 7 A study of 46 patients with Diabetes Mellitus
showed an improvement of 89% in their condition. Another study also showed satisfactory results.
Boosts Immunity, Increases Strength and Endurance - 4/5
Gu-Lan tea has a demonstrated ability to support the immune system when under stress from various destructive agents. 8, 9 It
has also shown effectiveness, in clinical research studies, as a potent immunomodulator. It increases the production of
lymphocytes, phagocytes, and serum IGG. 10
Results from human studies confirm that properties in Gu-Lan tea can enhance the contractility of the heart muscle and heart
pumping function. Other studies have shown that the saponins in Gu-Lan tea increase strength and endurance in the body.
Considering these findings overall, it becomes the perfect tea for anyone who wants to improve his competitive edge in any
field of athletic performance. 11
Patients taking a cancer drug together with Gu-Lan tea have a recovery rate of up to 250 percent better than those patients
taking the drug alone. These advanced-cancer patients experienced amazing regressions of malignant melanoma, renal cell
carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, lung cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and malignant hydrothorax. Remission of cancers
in patients treated with extracts from Gu-Lan tea lasted significantly longer than those treated without.
Gu-Lan tea’s antioxidant and unique polysaccharides can
stop the genetic mutations that can lead to cancer. Some
scientists believe that the tea may be an especially good
supplement to prevent liver cancer because it exerts liver
protection and anti-cancer effects at the same time.
Properties in Gu-Lan Tea were shown to enhance the effect of
radiation in combating lung cancer, female carcinoma of
uterus and skin cancer, allowing a lower dose to be used.
Other research indicates that the tea can protect against some
of the noxious side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.
Cancer Prevention and Inhibits Cancer Growth - 3/5
Gu-Lan tea modulates lymphocyte formation and increases lymphocyte activity. It was also found to greatly enhance the activity of
NK cells (natural killer cells, which are instrumental in the body's natural rejection of malignant cells) in cancer patients. It also has
the ability to cause the death of tumor cells by inducing apoptosis, a process in which cancer cells are broken down and recycled.
The impact of taking Gu-Lan tea.
”This Gu-Lan tea has attracted the interest of scientists because of its demonstrated ability
to increase Micro circulation in in vitro laboratory studies. According to noted pathologist
and medical professor Dr. Jialiu Liu, Gu-Lan tea properties’ circulation-enhancing effects
result from increased nitric oxide release in the capillaries, which is mediated by bioactive
Gu-Lan tea compounds known as gypenoside saponins.”
Mood Elevator, Youth Hormone Stimulation. - 4/5
Daily consumption of Gu-Lan tea is a natural mood elevator. It stimulates the secretion by the pituitary gland of HGH (human
growth hormone), the youth hormone. The benefits of HGH include: reduction of body fat, better sleep, improved memory,
accelerated healing, restored libido and a more youthful appearance.
The polysaccharides found in Gu-Lan tea enhance the body's production of HGH,
which helps build muscle and repair skin cells. The LBP polysaccharide complex
unique to Gu-Lan tea has been found to be a powerful secretagogue - a
substance that stimulates the secretion of HGH.
Libido and Fertility Enhancement - 4/5
Scientists found that overheating increased oxidative stress in the tubules. They theorized that
this increased free-radical production was the culprit in decreasing sperm production. The
anti-oxidants in Gu-Lan tea helped to reverse the effects of overheating on sperm production.
The properties in Gu-Lan tea has been shown to increase the sperm count and the vitality of
the sperm. Studies have shown an increased and strengthen sperm count and sperm vitality
could help male infertility. 12
Gu-Lan tea also supports the female reproductive system. It has been used as part of the diet
for women with premature ovarian failure. Research shows that properties in Gu-Lan tea offer
another option for treating female infertility in patients with premature ovarian failure (POF). 9
Some properties in Gu-Lan tea has also been used for relieve women’s dysmenorrhoea and
blood stasis syndromes caused by lack of menstruation and after giving birth.
Studies have shown that properties in Gu-Lan tea significantly increase testosterone level in
the blood, thereby increasing libido in both men and women. There are reports from Gu-Lan
tea users of increased libido after drinking Gu-Lan tea.
Helps Relieve Stress and Promotes Quality Sleep - 3/5
Gu-Lan tea has a biphasic effect on energizing or calming the system depending upon need. The
healthy maintenance of these physiological actions plays a major role in the body's ability to cope with
stress. 13, 14 The tea also modulates the nervous system. It calms an overexcited nervous system and
stimulates a depressed one.
300 professional athletes were the subject of a study. All the athletes reported that taking this tea
before competition made them vigorous and alert with quick reflexes. Yet, it also made them less
With regards to insomnia - 112 patients using Gu-Lan tea during the day reported a sleep
improvement of 89 to 95 percent.
Brain and Memory Function. - 3/5
Gu-Lan tea has a biphasic effect on brain functions. It is also considered as "brain tonic", because it contains
betaine, which is converted in the body into choline, substances that enhance memory and recall ability. 13, 14
Bloating and Constipation Relief - 3/5
Properties in Gu-Lan tea have been used traditionally in China to help relieve the bloated, uncomfortable
feeling in the abdomen area after meals and smoothing bowel movements. The tea is a natural and safe
solution for indigestion, food retention and Qi stagnation, abdominal distension and constipation. 15
Properties in Gu-Lan tea can dramatically increase the number of generations of human cells,
which increases lifespan. In an experiment, with gypenosides (from the Gu-Lan tea) being
added, the number of generations of the skin cell increased from 22 generations to 27; and
the number of generations of the 2PS cells increased from 51 generations to 59.
Scientists also noticed that feeding Gu-Lan tea extract to flies lengthened their lives by 18.5 -
24.1% depending on the dosage being dispensed.
Inhibition of the Aging Process - 5/5
Gu-Lan tea has been shown in tests to lower the amount of superoxide radical and hydrogen
peroxide in certain white blood cells, an excellent indicator of antioxidant activity. 16, 17 It protects
against decreased immune response, and it also increases the body’s antioxidant power so that
it is better able to mop up the dangerous free radicals that are generated after UV exposure. Its
betaine and master molecule polysaccharides can restore and repair damaged DNA. It also has
the remarkable property of increasing endogenous SOD (Superoxide Dismutase) in the body.
SOD is one of the body‘s most important antioxidants and studies show that charting SOD levels
in various animal species is a reliable indicator of their longevity. Trials in humans have shown
that SOD levels returned to youthful levels after taking 20 mg of GPs daily for one month. 18, 19
100% Natural and Caffeine Free
Unlike other harsh, chemical, artificial supplements, Gu-Lan tea is natural and nourishing to your health. Unlike many other
teas, it does not contain any caffeine.
Vision Improvement - 3/5
The study held that Gu-Lan tea was able to reduce the time it takes for vision to adapt to darkness. The carotenoids found in
Gu-Lan tea may also protect against macular degeneration and cataracts.
Liver Function and Hepatitis B (HBV) Control - 3/5
100 Hep B patients were given Gu-Lan tea for 3 months. In 89% of cases, the patient experienced an
improvement in condition. Another study of 200 patients yielded similar results. Other studies showed
the ability to protect the liver from various toxic chemicals such as carbon tetrachloride.
Lung Function and Chronic Bronchitis Control - 3/5
A study of 86 cases of chronic bronchitis patients demonstrated that 93% of patients demonstrated and
improvement after taking Gu-Lan tea. Another study of 96 cases had a 92% effectiveness rate. No toxic
effects were noted. Unlike ginseng, it does not over stimulate. Gu-Lan tea has been detected by
scientific study to have at least eighty-two saponins. Saponins are the effective components of properties
in Gu-Lan tea and ginseng tea. These saponins are what accounts for Gu-Lan tea‘s regulatory effect on
many physiological systems. Other health-supporting properties in Gu-Lan tea are regulation of
cholesterol (lipid metabolism), increased cardiac output, better oxygen utilization, faster recovery from
exercise, adjustment and maintenance of the proper balance of stability and excitability of the brain and
improving appetite, etc. Some of these effects are due to the antioxidant action of Gu-Lan tea. 20

May Assist in Managing High Cholesterol Levels - 5/5
A diet high in fat, rich in meats and poor in whole grains and vegetables, causes weight
gain by increasing LDL and insulin levels. Scientific studies have confirmed the properties
in Gu-Lan tea assist the regulation of serum cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL (low density
lipids, more commonly referred to as bad cholesterol), and HDL (high density lipids, also
known as good cholesterol, which helps to metabolize cholesterol from the arteries).1
The gypenosides (GPs) found in Gu-Lan Tea lowers total cholesterol, LDL, and increases
HDL. More than 20 papers have been published on the subject with effectiveness reported
as ranging from 67 to 93%. It also inhibits platelet aggregation which lessens the chance of
a stroke or heart attack and prevents the AS. 2
The experiments on the mice and
rabbits which had been fed with high
sugar and high fat food and suffering
from hyperlipemia shows that being fed
with GPs for 4-7 weeks, the total
cholesterol and LDL cholesterol had
been dramatically reduced and the
increase of the LPO had been controlled.
Burns Fat and Turns Body Fat Naturally to Energy - 5/5
A high fat diet causes weight gain by increasing LDL and insulin levels. Studies show that
the nutrients in Gu-Lan tea may decrease the absorption of fats in the stomach and
inhibit the increase in insulin levels one normally experiences after eating high fat meals.
The results have been particularly promising on dissolving the fats from various kinds of
meat in the stomach.
Gu-Lan tea has been widely used in Japan for obesity. In a study there obese patients were
given high quality Gu-Lan tea in the morning and afternoon. Most patients lost a significant
amount of weight. Polysaccharides found in Gu-Lan tea were shown to reduce body weight
by enhancing the conversion of fat into energy.
The rabbits with serious hyperlipemia
been fed with high doses of GPs extracted
they obviously reduced TC, TG and LDL
and increased the HDL/LDC values. This
indicates Gu-Lan Tea enhances the
release of nitric oxide in the body, which
helps to relax the coronary blood vessels.
